Vitamin C serum with hyaluronic acid: Why did we add this option for Citri California LLC clients?

As you learned in last week’s update, Vitamin C serum is highly effective because it is a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals. It can also help offset damage from things like UV rays and exposure to air pollution. We kept all of the great antioxidant properties from our original Vitamin C serum and added a special booster for your skin: hyaluronic acid.

Why are we so excited about having an option with hyaluronic acid? Here are just a few of its benefits:

      • Stimulates Skin Cell Regeneration: In your early 20s, it takes about 28 days for new skin cells to make it to the surface of your skin.  As we age, collagen and elastin production slow down and it takes longer for new cells to reach the surface, sometimes as long as 90 days. While it won’t speed up the process, hyaluronic acid helps promote skin cell regeneration by offering extra hydration and barrier protection to the skin. This naturally leads to healthier cells and a more vibrant complexion.
      • Less Visible Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Hyaluronic acid helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles while retaining moisture on your skin. When your skin is protected and hydrated, increased skin cell production may take place, because it isn't busy fighting for hydration. This leads to smoother, plumper skin cells.
    • Smoother Texture: Hyaluronic acid helps smooth the texture of your skin. This results in a silky smooth finish you can see and feel.
    • Lipid Barrier Enhancement: The lipid barrier is your skin’s natural armor, made up of naturally occurring fatty acids. Your skin’s main function is to protect your body from harmful toxins that bombard you on a daily basis. The top layer of your skin (epidermis) takes the brunt of outside damage (toxins). As we age, the lipid barrier (fatty acids that trap in water and prevent irritants entering the skin) in the epidermis slows down. Everything from UV rays to environmental pollution and lifestyle choices (like smoking) cause damage, resulting in more fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and drier skin. Hyaluronic acid fortifies your skin’s natural barriers to lock moisture in for an even more dramatic hydrating effect. Over time, this can slow down the deterioration of the lipid barrier and help protect and fortify it.
    • Increased Resilience: Because the lipid barrier is enhanced and protected by hyaluronic acid, your skin is better able to defend itself against environmental factors and pollutants. When it’s not fighting these toxins, your skin is free to be less wrinkled, more bright, and have increased resilience.

    • Hyaluronic Acid is a Humectant: Think of a humectant like a sponge; it will continue to draw in and hold onto moisture after it is collected. This allows for hydrogen bonding, which attracts water. After infusing the epidermis (top layer of your skin) with valuable moisture, hyaluronic acid acts as a humectant and continues to draw moisture in from the surrounding environment. This helps provide lasting hydration for your skin.
    • Hyaluronic Acid = Hydration: Think of hyaluronic acid like a BIG drink of water for your skin. It is able to hold up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water. Hyaluronic acid penetrates your skin and binds water to skin cells, infusing all layers of your skin with valuable, rejuvenating moisture.

Some helpful things to keep in mind:

  • Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid Serum can be layered with other products, but it doesn’t need a bunch of other ingredients and fillers to be effective. In fact, hyaluronic acid is the perfect example of how limited ingredient skincare can deliver real results. If you’re using our facial lotion, we recommend applying Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid Serum first, allowing it to dry (approximately 5 minutes), then applying a healthy dose of facial lotion.
  • Citri California does not use artificial preservatives because they can break down your skin’s barrier by killing off the good bacteria that helps defend the surface of your skin against toxins. The result is a loss of moisture, as well as potential irritation and even infection.
  • Did you know that most acne-prone skin doesn’t have a strong lipid barrier to discourage inflammation and irritation? Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic adds hydration, which helps protect the lipid barrier and is recommended for those with sensitive or acne-prone skin.

Our Vitamin C Serum with Hyaluronic Acid has all of the other great ingredients we covered in last week’s post:

  • Pure, distilled water to dilute the Vitamin C to acceptable level
  • Vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid, which is vital in skincare products because it acts as an antioxidant when applied to skin, helping with skin cell rejuvenation and inducing collagen synthesis[1]. Studies have shown that vitamin C protects skin from UV-induced damage by reducing the amount of free radical formation, which is counteracted by vitamin C’s antioxidant properties[2]. In addition, vitamin C has been suggested to reduce wrinkles and help repair age-related damage, while brightening the skin[3]
  • Vegetable glycerin helps to hydrate the outer layer of the skin (the stratum corneum), improve skin barrier function and skin mechanical properties, provide protection against skin irritants and accelerate wound-healing processes

To use:

Citri California LLC, Vitamin C serum with hyaluronic acid should be applied before moisturizers, creams and/or any other products; as in terms of consistency, it’s better to layer from thinnest to thickest (while allowing enough time for them to dry in between).

Cleanse face and gently pat dry.  Apply Vitamin C serum and allow to dry prior to applying Citri California Facial Lotion.

Vitamin C serum can also be applied at night, prior to applying Citri California Evening serum and going to sleep.

As with all of our products, It is also important to note what is not included.  We include only fresh ingredients and we use organic when available. No parabens, artificial fragrances or colors are ever added.

We never test on animals.

Our direct to consumer model allows us to provide our fresh skin care products directly to our customers.

We look forward to next week when we will review our Vitamin C with Hyaluronic acid serum ingredients.
